Age-Related Macular Degeneration

A 63-year-old female patient with Age-Related Macular Degeneration (right eye). On the fluorescein angiogram in the early phase drusen appear as multiple hyperfluorescent spots of small size, round-shaped, well-contoured (hard drusen) or as round hyperfluorescent lesions, lager than hard drusen, with a poorly defined contour and the tendency to conflate (soft drusen). Well defined CNV can be completely identified from the early phases. The aspect is that of an intense, well-defined hyperfluorescence. The association with hyperfluorescent areas around the CNV corresponds to the hemorrhagic blockage. Her visual acuity (VA) at the time was 20/100.
