Calciphylaxis cutis

A 53-year-old patient was referred for necrosis on the glans. The patient suffered from diabetes and renal deficiency disease and was on dialysis. Calciphylaxix cutis manifests as subcutaneous nodules or plaques located on the arms and rarely on the genital area. Lesions are covered by ulcerated skin from ischemic necrosis. Histologically there is calcification of the vessel wall of subcutaneous arterioles and lobular panniculitis with a mixed inflammatory infiltrate, necrosis and calcification of adipose tissue. The mortality rate of calciphylaxix is high. Fitzpatrick skin type (FST) phototype 4.
