Calcium flame test of calcium chloride (CaCl2). When heated, calcium produces a yellow-orange flame. Certain compounds will emit a colorful flame when heated due to the energy the flame provides to the metallic ion. As the compound returns to its normal energy level, it loses energy in the form of light.
