Defeated Rocky Mountain Elk

Rocky Mountain Elk (Cervus elaphus nelsoni) bull defeated in battle emerges from a lake. A battle may occur in which the bulls lock antlers, brace their legs, shove, heave, and twist their necks. Most battles are short in duration, with one of the combatants quitting, disengaging his antlers, and fleeing the area. Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.
