Heart transplant rejection
Heart transplant. Acute cellular rejection: myocarditis. Histological section of the myocardium from a transplanted heart, HES stain, x 600 (at 24 x36 mm size). Rejection is due to the recipient's T4 lymphocytes which do not recognize the foreign tissue in the graft and which activate other cells of the immune system which can then attack the graft and cause myocarditis. The nuclei of T4 lymphocytes are round and colored dark purple.
