Intracerebral Hemorrhages, MRI

This axial (cross-sectional) SWI (susceptibility weighted image) MR image shows multiple scattered areas of previous hemorrhage (bleeding) in a patient with long standing uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure). The areas of old hemorrhage are black on this blood sensitive MR sequence. SWI MR imaging is a new, highly sensitive technique for the detection of intracranial blood.
