Necrotizing enterocolitis
A 1-year-old-female baby patient. A Coloured lateral X-Ray radiograph. Branching lucencies are seen in the hepatic region, which in a premature baby with a given clinical presentation are suggestive of necrotizing enterocolitis. Noticeable are prominent and few dilated air-filled small bowel loops in the centre of the abdomen. A follow-up is needed to check for fixed bowel pattern and development of pneumoperitoneum which would require a surgical emergency. The chest shows mild ground glass with prominent interstitial marking, which is consistent with residual hyaline membrane disease.
