Panning for Gold
Small scale alluvial (placer) gold exploration and mining on a gravel bar exposed as water levels in the Mekong River fall in the low water season (January). Near Koh Preah, Stung Treng, Cambodia. A sluice box, gold pan, and mercury are used to recover the gold. In previous yerars birds such as River Terns (Sterna aurantia) and Small Praticoles (Glareola lactea) were starting to nest on the bar at this time of the year.
