Retinal images of butterfly-shaped pigment dystrophy, a type of macular degeneration. Fluorescein angiograms of each eye of the same person (top) show damage to the retinal pigment epithelium (central radiating dark areas), not readily seen in the color fundus images (below). Butterfly dystrophy isan inherited condition and the prognosis is generally good.
