Rheumatic mitral stenosis

Intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography prior to the surgery. ME LAX View (mid-esophageal, long axis). Mitral valve cusps are compacted & thickened. A fusion of the mitral valve cusps along the commissures leads to their characteristic bending during diastole (like a dome). A stenotic flow on the mitral valve and mild central regurgitation on the aortic valve in the left ventricle diastole are visualized during the color Doppler ultrasonography.
