Strontium chloride (SrCl2) giving off a bright red color in a flame test, which can identify the metallic ion in a salt compound. Certain compounds will emit a colorful flame when heated due to the energy the flame provides to the metallic ion. As the compound returns to its normal energy level, it loses energy in the form of light.
