Subconjunctival hemorrhage (or subconjunctival bleeding ), also known as hyposhagmus,  is bleeding under the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva contains many small, fragile blood vessels that are easily damaged or broken. When this happens, blood seeps into the space between the conjunctiva and the sclera.
