Unicuspid aortic valve

A unicuspid aortic valve is a rare congenital malformation revealed in 5.59% of patients during aortic valve replacement and in 0.019% of patients during echocardiographic evaluation. In many patients, a unicuspid aortic valve leads to the development of aortic stenosis. In the case presented, a 31 years old male presented with a unicuspid aortic valve, severe aortic stenosis and ascending aortic aneurysm. Aortic valve, root and ascending aortic replacement (Bentall procedure) with hemiarch replacement was performed. Photo of excised aortic valve leaflets is presented.
