Water Lettuce Blossom
Close-up of a water lettuce blossom, Pistia stratiotes, in the Peruvian Amazon. Although it resembles a velvety lettuce, it is a member of the arum family and its flower has the typical arum form. Water lettuce has become a serious invasive problem in warm regions of the world, including the southern US, where it is not native but introduced.
