Cuban fruit-eating bat (Brachyphylla nana)

A Cuban fruit-eating bat (Brachyphylla nana). Range is Cuba, Grand Cayman, Hispaniola, Isle of Pines and middle Caicos islands. Diet consists mostly of a wide variety of fruit, but also includes nectar, pollen and insects. When visiting flowers, it selects mostly the largest, sturdiest species on which it can land, given that it is unable to hover like Monophyllus. Roosts in caves, where males often guard small harem groups in ceiling cavities.
