Discitis and Antibiotic Impregnated Beads, CT Scan
This axial (cross-sectional) CT image of the lumbar spine shows destructive changes along the inferior endplate of L5 and the superior endplate of S1. This is consistent with disc space infection (discitis) and vertebral osteomyelitis. Vancomycin impregnated calcium sulfate beads had been surgically placed into the L5/S1 disc space for antibiotic treatment.
