GALLSTONE, SONOGRAPHY
The gallbadder is an oblong pouch containing bile. Measuring about 10 cm, the gallbladder is situated under the liver and serves as a reservoir for bile secreted by the liver. When the food bolus enters the digestive tract, the gallbladder releases bile into the intestine where it participates in the absorption of food, particularly fat. The gallbladder seen on this sonography has a stone or lithiasis. Generally gallsstones go unnoticed but sometimes they can provoke pain or infection (cholecystitis). Ultrasonography.
