Normal Heart vs. Left Ventricle Hypertrophy
Illustration showing a normal heart at left and a heart with left ventricle hypertrophy at right. Left ventricle hypertrophy (LHV) can develop in response to factors such as high blood pressure which require the left ventricle to work harder. As the workload increases, the walls of the chamber grow thicker, lose elasticity and eventually may fail to pump as efficiently as a healthy heart.
