SEROTONIN SYNAPSE
The chemical reaction occurring at the synapse between two neurons is at the heart of nervous depression. The neurotransmitter, serotonin, stored in the neurotransmitter vesicles (dark violet bodies) is released into the synapse where it reaches receptors (yellow structures) on the next neuron. Inhibition of these receptors can have an effect in certain cases of depression.
