Transmission electron micrograph of a transitional zone of endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi region from a cell of Brunner's gland. Transport (intermediate) vesicles maintain communication between the endoplasmic reticulum and the Golgi apparatus. These vesicles can be seen budding from a ribosome-free region of the cistern of endoplasmic reticulum immediately below the mitochondrion.
