Genetic engineering encompasses many techniques including cloning. The genetic material in a given cell is copied and transferring to another cell. Thus when a cell nucleus is grafted into a very young embryo or into a fertilized ovum from which the nucleus has been removed, the resulting individual has exactly the same genetic make-up as the original cell. It is a clone.
