Infected cat bite on the wrist of a 60 year old man. Pasteurella multocida is a Gram-negative, nonmotile, penicillin-sensitive coccobacillus which is often the cause of cellulitis from cat and dog bites. This photo shows a streak of red lymphangitis extending from the forearm (left) to beyond the biceps of the upper arm. The infection responded within 24 hours to a penicillinase-resistant antibiotic (amoxicillin/clavulanic acid).
