Result of a reaction of potassium iodide (KI) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). In this reaction potassium iodide serves as a catalyst, decomposing the hydrogen peroxide into water (H2O) and oxygen (O2). The potassium iodide, shown here adheredto the beaker after evaporating the water, equals the origi nal amount added, demonstrating that it was only a catalyst.
