Result of a reaction of potassium iodide (KI) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). In this reaction potassium iodide serves as a catalyst, decomposing the hydrogen peroxide into water (H2O) and oxygen (O2). The potassium iodide shown in a watch glass next to the beaker (as an illustration of the KI evaporated out of solution), equals the original amount added.
