PANCREAS, DRAWING
The pancreas is a digestive tract organ lying deep in the abdomen in close relation with the duodenum. The pancreas measures 15 cm long and has three parts: the head, the main part (on the right) measuring 6 cm high; the medial part or body, and a thin, tapering tail (on the left). The pancreas produces hormones including insulin (internal secretion) and gastric juices (external secretion) which are delivered to the duodenum.
